Mr. G, I was brushing up on ye olde basic Three Act Structure diagram and it got me wondering. Is there something like a ye olde basic Individual Section Structure thing too, like for chapters vs acts?
I don’t know. I never could get the hang of a three act structure anyway. I mean, you start something, stuff happens, more stuff happens, you finish something makes sense to me. But the Hollywood three act structure normally just makes me feel like I’ve seen this film before. (“They’ve sorted it all out but obviously they haven’t sorted it out because we are only 80 minutes into the film which means something has to now go wrong which means that the nice man has to be a traitor so that we can turn everything to shit for the end of the second act so that they can get to the ending in a little under half an hour…”)
Finding your own unique sound is something most artists take entire careers to perfect, especially in a landscape where it’s so easy to slip into a formula that already seems to work. Nigerian born Londoner Obongjayar introduces himself an artist in his own lane, bringing a refreshing take on hip hop by incorporating elements of soul and pop into debut single “Creeping”. There’s an element of sophistication in the production, subtle intricacies that lurk in the corners before jumping out at you as if from out of nowhere. This is ultra special - catch the equally arresting visual above and look out for an EP that’s on the way.
